The Process West Top Mount Intercooler is engineered as a complete cooling solution for Subaru WRX and STI applications. Rather than simply increasing core size, Process West optimized the intercooler core, splitter, and Y-pipe together to improve airflow, reduce heat soak, and maintain more consistent charge temperatures under hard driving.

Optimized Airflow

A larger top-mount intercooler can lose much of its effectiveness when paired with factory ducting that does not cover the entire upgraded core. Process West uses a properly sized splitter designed to direct airflow across 100% of the intercooler surface for maximum cooling efficiency.

90mm Core Thickness

Process West selected a 90mm core to balance cooling capacity with airflow resistance. Because air entering a top-mount intercooler must make a sharp turn through the hood scoop, excessively thick cores can restrict airflow. The 90mm design allows air to move efficiently through the core while providing substantial cooling surface area.

High-Flow Y-Pipe

The included silicone Y-pipe is engineered to distribute charge air evenly across the full width of the intercooler rather than concentrating airflow through one section of the core.

Proven Performance

Back-to-back testing on a 2005 Subaru WRX showed:

• Process West intercooler: 115.5 kW
• Factory intercooler: 107.5 kW
• Process West peak outlet temperature: 51°C
• Factory peak outlet temperature: 66°C

After three consecutive dyno runs, the factory intercooler reached 84°C and continued climbing.

During spirited road testing, the Process West intercooler remained below 43°C, while the factory intercooler reached 72°C and was still increasing.
